Terms:
· 20 Hours per week
· Schedule to be negotiated
· Some weekends required
· $20/hour with regular cost of living and merit increases

Purpose of the position or Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager, Floor Operations is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of the store including the motivation and supervision of a volunteer staff.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Store Operations
● Ensure a trained, competent store opener and closer, with keys, is scheduled to be on duty for each day the store is open.
● Ensure staff adjust A/C and heating to predetermined levels when store opens and closes.
● Ensure written day-to-day operational information is available for volunteers
● Ensure float and backup is adequate and advise General Manager if more backup is required.
● Ensure displays are kept tidy and attractive and are restocked as needed.
● Assist with visual merchandising displays as needed.
● Interact with visitors/solicitors to the store.
● Assist in the implementation of and oversee emergency response plans (eg. COVID).
● Handle any immediate emergencies and contact the General Manager or Board designee asap.
2. Volunteers
● Recommend when new volunteers are needed.
● Participate in interviewing and selecting new volunteers.
● Train volunteers on floor/store routines (e.g regular procedures, customer service, special promotions and events etc.).
● Create and distribute monthly schedules ensuring that planned absences are covered.
● Arrange for coverage for any unplanned absences.
● Assist with sales floor problems.
● Coordinate and oversee volunteer in-store and back room activities.
● Following policy, ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
● Advise the General Manager of volunteer or sales floor problems as appropriate and assist with solutions as requested.
3. Physical Plant
● Coordinate cleaning regimen ensuring store entrance and interior and bathroom are clean.
● Ensure garbage and recycling are out on collection days (twice/week).
● Ensure entrances are cleared of snow and are salted.
● Ensure floor is mopped as needed especially during salt season.
● Ensure store support items and janitorial supplies are in stock and in place.
● Ensure ceiling lights are functioning and bulbs are replaced as needed.
● Ensure all areas are safe in accordance with health and safety standards.
● Share physical plant problems/concerns and possible solutions with General Manager.
4. Inventory
● For consumable products:
○ Monitor inventory levels for re-ordering.
○ Conduct regular cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory numbers.
○ Place orders for new and existing products and supplies keeping special sales, shipping costs, store finances and delivery times in mind.
○ Create and receive purchase orders for shipments.
○ Notify suppliers of damaged items and/or miscounts.
○ Monitor BBD.
○ Determine handling of stale inventory.
● Ensure all products are properly labelled with price stickers.
● Coordinate volunteer teams to assist with unpacking and stickering new shipments as requested.
● Receive and re-shelve unsold inventory from offsite sales.
● Coordinate packing and delivery of off-site, high school sale-by-orders as needed.
● Store inventory according to established inventory storage procedures, suggesting changes as needed.
5. Other
● Contribute to the management team and store atmosphere in a positive manner.
● Participate with all managerial staff to develop ongoing marketing ideas and/or campaigns.
● Coordinate coffee sale logistics including maintenance of coffee customer notification list.
● Assist with annual rug event.
● Respond to donation requests as per policy guidelines.
● Complete incident reports as needed and advise the General Manager.
● Work with committees and report to the Board as requested.
● Oversee store operations when only manager on site.
● Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
● Knowledge of and interest in the concept of Fair Trade and Social Justice
● Experience in a retail setting and/or volunteer organization
● Experience with a POS system
● Strong interpersonal skills and experience in customer service
● Experience in motivating and supervising volunteers
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Highly organized with very good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
● Ability and desire to work in a fluid environment
